I AM

OVERVIEW

We will be looking to scripture to answer the question so many of us face: “Who is Jesus?” For generations people have been debating this question. Was he a good moral teacher? Was he a revolutionary? Was he a figment of history’s imagination? Was he a liar, a lunatic or Lord? John’s gospel records the identity of Jesus by examining His very words “I am the bread of life. I am the light of the world. I am the door. I am the good shepherd. I am the resurrection and the life. I am the way the truth and the life. I am the true vine. I am who I am.”

I Am the Bread of Life
John 6

1. Introduction: Is that all there is?

Key quote from Tim Keller: “The christian view of satisfaction: It avoids the pitfalls of both the ancient strategy of tranquility through detachment and the modern strategy of happiness through acquisition. It both explains and resolves the deep conundrum of our seemingly irremediable discontentment… Jesus doesn’t say he is the dispenser of bread. He says, I AM, the bread.” It’s in the person of Jesus  where we find true satisfaction, contentment, and life.

2. The Basic Bread (John 6:1-21)

3. The Wrong Bread  (John 6:25-31)

4. The True Bread  (John 6:32-33)

5. The Living Bread (John 6:35-59)

6. Conclusion: Do you want to go away as well? (John 6:60-71)

5. How does Jesus, as the bread of life, satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst?
